Tiny Bugs

2024 / 2017

Fitted timber frame, tracing paper, volcanic and aquarium sand, metal wire rope, cable ties, wires, vibrating motors, programmed relay board

Tiny Bugs was inspired by and originally installed in a site-specific configuration at St James Hatcham Church, London in 2017. The kinetic installation re-interprets the sensation of gentle rain, as vibrating motors whirl and buzz across a tracing paper skylight, creating an ebbing soundscape while making and unmaking misty drawings in sand. Grains trickle through gaps in the paper scrolls, onto the audience and then the ground, accumulating traces that crunch underfoot.

Shown as part of When Sediment Sinks at Art Outreach Singapore from 20 to 28 July 2024.
