Single-channel video with sound

Culminating from close investigations of the physical and sonic environments generated by water bodies in Lisbon, over the course of their artist residency, susurration examines water’s many roles in the urban landscape. Simultaneously an ornamental fluid, a life-sustaining medium and an industrial conduit, water is a powerful activator of space and place. 

 

Employing listening as a tool to consider how nature and technology coalesce in our surroundings, the artist collected over a hundred field recordings over the course of their residency. These recordings serve as source material and inspiration for the resulting video work. Spectrograms visualising these sounds also feature in the video, highlighting the interplay between the fluid nature of sound and water.
